Churchill’s Forgotten War

Duration: 1 x 60’

Output: Broadcast

In the summer of 1940, Europe was at war. Churchill had taken power and, amidst fevered talk of a ‘third column’ of spies, took the decision to arrest UK citizens originating from Germany, Austria and Italy. Many were perfectly innocent men - some even Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution. The policy would end in one of the most tragic episodes on the homefront before being scrapped and consigned to a footnote in WWII history.

Speaking to one of the last survivors, and using unseen letters and archives, this film will tell the story of Churchill’s Forgotten War for the first time on television.
