In Summer 2017, Halifax will have a new, £9m library and archive. Calderdale MBC approached Unity House to produce AV content. This included documenting Arts Council funded engagement work as well as creating a video installation.
Unity House spent two years working with artists engaging communities in producing new work. The imagery from this project will be exhibited in the library alongside a video installation.
The installation had an open brief so we decided to create a film that connected with Halifax people and explored its heritage. After digitising part of the Council’s vast archive, we set about repurposing footage and finding interesting ways of presenting it to library visitors.
The new Halifax Library and Archives is due to open in December 2016. The AV we create will be installed around the building, including the central foyer area. We look forward to seeing the impact it will have in connecting visitors with both the arts activities that have taken place over the last two years as well as Halifax’s heritage.
